S5 Trailer — Welcome to PSYCHEDUP!

00:00:01

Chelan: The nightmares were unstoppable.

00:00:04

Dr. Diane McIntosh: Introducing a new podcast about mental illness.

00:00:07

Nadia: What if we get into a car accident? What if they end up dying? What if I have to take them to the hospital? What if the ambulance has to come?

00:00:13

Dr. Diane McIntosh: Each definitive episode covers one condition. This season we’re exploring OCD, PTSD, depression, bipolar, ADHD, and panic disorder.

00:00:23

Pauline: I don’t want to ever have to go back to hospital, especially like that.

00:00:26

Dr. Diane McIntosh: Living with a mental illness isn’t for the faint of heart.

00:00:30

Rob: I hated school, hated it completely.

00:00:32

Dr. Diane McIntosh: The struggles are real and at times they can feel unending.

00:00:36

Chelan: I was in survival mode. I didn’t have time to look at my mental health, put my life under a microscope, I was just coping. I was just trying to get through every day to see the next morning.

00:00:48

Dr. Diane McIntosh: Navigating the illness is one thing, but stigma is another.

00:00:52

Rob: I don’t go into details about medication because people have opinions.

00:00:56

Dr. Diane McIntosh: And then there’s the overburdened medical system.

00:01:00

Nadia: So it was a long time of struggling. I had been on a million different medications and none of them helped, it was a difficult way to live.

00:01:08

Dr. Diane McIntosh: None of this is easy, but there is always hope.

00:01:11

Nadia: When I was introduced to my current psychiatrist and she figured out everything that was going on and was able to treat them appropriately, things got a lot better.

00:01:20

Dr. Diane McIntosh: I’m Dr. Diane McIntosh. I’m a psychiatrist and the founder and CEO of RAPIDSHealth. In each episode we’ll dig into one mental illness and talk to people about what it’s really like to live with it. Then we’ll talk about how to diagnose it and then to treat it because we all deserve care.

00:01:38

Pauline: I didn’t know that I would find the real me on the other side of all that. I’ve been sick most of my life up and down, and so I like to think that this is who I really am and I’d like to stay like this for a little bit longer.

00:01:53

Dr. Diane McIntosh: This is PSYCHEDUP. The show for people who have or love someone who has a mental illness, so it’s kind of for everyone. Follow us wherever you get your podcasts.

Mental illnesses are tough, frightening, isolating, and sometimes even life-threatening.

Whether you’ve experienced one yourself or supported someone who has, mental illnesses touch us all.

So let’s get educated, because there is help.

Each episode focuses on one mental illness: depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar and panic disorder.

We hear directly from individuals living with these illnesses, gaining an honest glimpse into their realities.

We also cover symptoms, diagnosis and treatments, from medications to talk therapy or both.

As an advocate for better mental health care, I hope PSYCHEDUP will be your guide to understanding mental illness and finding hope.
